Kazimierz Jewish District

Kazimierz is a historical district tied closely with the Jewish culture. From the 14th until the 19th century, Kazimierz was an independent town, separated from Krakow by the branch of the Vistula river. It was a place where Christian and Jewish cultures coexisted for centuries. There are many Synagogues in the district: Old, Remuh, Tempel, KupaWolf Popper, Isaac’s and the High. They represent various architectural styles. Some of them are still in use today. Nowadays Kazimierz is the cultural centre of the city and young people’s favourite place of meetings.
